ivanfmg. But without thousands of warriors and labourers from Tlaxcala Cortez would not have been able to ruin the Aztec Empire. Ironically it was the Aztec envoy who met the Spaniards on the Gulf coast bringing many magnificent gifts who told Cortez there was huge quantites of gold in the Aztec empire. There could hardly have been a more perilous admission.

  2. ivanfmg Says:

the Spanish conquest was not that simple…they had to make many expeditions before getting to the Aztec empire….when they were passing trough Veracruz, the indians from there (the nahuatl, popolucas and chichimecas) followed them and gave them battle all the way to Puebla state, this episode is known as “The tree of the sad night” because under a tree Hernan Cortez sat down to weep for the defeat He suffered…

  3. ivanfmg Says:

well, you’re right just in part, because the peak of the Maya civilization’s gone; did I mention that the Aztec was the predominant civilization when the Spaniards arrive??? just take a look what the emperor Moctezuma (in spanish) required for himself everyday and you’ll know a small bit more about this. the riches and splendor of Tenochtitlan were heard by the spaniards and they became the main target…even today no one knows where the Moctezuma treasure is…

  4. Caracalla23 Says:

Sorry to sound like a know it all SOB but the wonderful murals shown at 8.10ish were not found at Yaxchilan but at Bonampak.

  5. Caracalla23 Says:

bajorjor. Gibsons movie was about the Maya. But as I reckon I said below CLASSIC Maya civilization was long gone by the time the Spanish arrived. The mass sacrfice and beheadings that you saw in Gibsons film were characteristic of the Aztecs not the Maya. I loved Apocalypto. I thought it was visually stunning. But it was a HOLLYWOOD movie and should not be treated as such.

  6. bajorjor1 Says:

@ivanfmg nyak it is said here that the mayans lost their civilization long before the spaniards arrizedso much for your enlightened history

  7. ivanfmg Says:

the Spaniards went not directly to the Aztec empire, they had to conquer the other civilizations as well before getting to the central part of Mexico where the Aztec empire was….the Mayans were the first ones conquered. Besides, some of them wanted to get rid of the Aztec domination, you can find in history that some small tribes joined the Spaniards to conquer the Aztecs…if you need some more enlightenment…let me know.

  8. ivanfmg Says:

On October the 27th, 1492, Christopher Columbus arrived at the ancient province of Camaguey (Cuba today). Being Cuba a colony now, Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba (1517) departed from there arriving to the peninsula of Yucatan (this people were the ones you saw in the movie)…this is not about what you can or can not reckon….this is about history…and history is already written down……

  9. bajorjor1 Says:

@ivanfmg so enlighten me if it was not the aztecs which civ is it, in the ending the spaniards arrived, i can not reckon of any other civ that looks like it where the spaniards first conquered

  10. ivanfmg Says:

nope…..read very carefully about what Gibson said about this movie, and watch more carefully the movie…..before commenting

  11. bajorjor1 Says:

@ivanfmg hey apocalipto was a movie bout the aztecs, not the mayans

  12. Caracalla23 Says:

Two thumbs down for my comment from three weeks ago. Seems like the FACTS are painful for some people.

  13. Caracalla23 Says:

@ivanfmg The guy in the blue shirt is German epigrapher Nikolai Grube, one of the worlds leading experts on Mayan glyphs and inscriptions. You should read his book “Chronicle of the Maya Kings and Queens” which he wrote in conjunction with Englishman Simon Martin. Brilliant.

  14. Caracalla23 Says:

@ivanfmg A lot superior knowledge? Whist the Maya were incredible astronimers and had an extrordinarilly complex calendar Ivan they didn’t have the plough, the wheel (except on toys) and didn’t possess metal tools. I can’t see how fifteen centuries on you can know whether people had respect, honour, pride and recognition. If as you say they were just like us (which I don’t doubt) they probably felt and emoted in the same way we do.

  15. AnthraxBird Says:

They also said the world was 3000 years ancient at the time they we’re living…

  16. ivanfmg Says:

On part 1 the guy with blue shirt said something right…the Mayans were just like us, but a lot superior in knowledge, mathematics, astronomy. The society was so sophisticated, something we have lost a lot time ago, for that I was so mad eith the Gibson’s so stupid movie Apocalipto. You don’t have the minimum thought what impressive the mayan civilization was. War, crimes, robbers?? Of course thay had all these..but they had some things we do not have, respect, honor, pride, recognition.

  17. Caracalla23 Says:

Hometown. Its not speculation or theories by us whities. The evidence that wars and violence were endemic in Late Classic Mayan society is there in the Mayan inscriptions. On their stelae, lintels and ceramics. Their own history written by THEMSELVES. Go read.

  22. slpx09 Says:

As far as history is concerned, only one race has killed more people than Mayans or Aztecs ever sacrificed. Go back & study, to find out about the amount of people that have died in the name of their religiuos beliefs or political empires.

  23. LillyBlackSambo Says:

Who voted thumbs down on this comment? What this guy said is right and right.

  24. BosqueBottomBoy Says:

I wonder what impact centuries of consuming hallugenogenic mushrooms has on a race of people. It has to have an effect on their genetics. I truly believe that these people and their decendants are RIGHT human beings. They have a way of living in harmony with nature that no other poeple are capable of.

  25. cypresspuz Says:

    Right right.
